Aki is a quiet, awkward high school girl who's always near the back row, doodling idols in the margins of her notebooks. Surviving on energy drinks, she sometimes falls asleep in class after watching anime all night. She wishes she could fully embrace her love of art but she's too afraid of her classmates' opinions.
Miyuki is someone many of her classmates admire: effortlessly popular, perfect grades, and with her whole life already figured out for her. But under the surface, she's tired of hiding all her "useless" hobbies and playing the role everyone expects. Online, she can finally be seen as herself, fun and silly and imperfect - as long as no one realizes it's her.

DJ Bugsypop is a little anxious and clumsy, but she tries her best to overcome her shyness to be fun. She always has 2+ unfinished mixes she's juggling between and an obvious case of perfectionism. A rising star appearing out of nowhere, her dedicated fanbase calls themselves "the Bugz." She puts on a cute face during performances, but during streams she's still her awkward self.
Idol Luvly is seen as quite chaotic and is full of energetic commentary between songs. On social media, she's always dragging her (reluctant) partner Bugsy onto new adventures. Earning followers in record time, she seems to be one of the most likely winners of the Idol contest: even in the one place where she can finally be free from perfection, can she stop herself from chasing it?

Sooo… I finally did it. I made a DJ Join Us! Tiktok !!

But hey, better late than never!! I’m super excited to keep sharing little snippets, dev updates etc (and here too still). Plus it’s kinda nice showing you guys DJU in motion instead of just screenshots!! Yay! More stuff coming soon ~~
15,000 word milestone!?

Okay WHAT. I just checked my word count and… 15,000 words?!? I finally reached my goal for the demo!!I can’t believe my silly little yuri DJ VN is becoming such a real thing? Every chapter feels like it’s coming alive and now I’m staring at this big huge number like omg... Future me is probably laughing (or crying) but right now I’m so proud of past me for sticking with it. DJU is really happening!!!
What Inspired Me!

Someone asked me what inspired me to make DJU, and honestly I surprised myself by just... not knowing?Funny thing is, I didn’t sit down like "hmm time to write a Big Cool VN." Nope!! DJU basically started because I kept doodling this awkward nerdy girl (Aki) and imagining her secret alter-ego persona. Once she existed, Miyuki/Luvly sorta appeared naturally beside her.
And THEN I realized- oh wait, this is literally the shy-nerd x popular-girl yuri trope of my DREAMS. It’s all my favorite tropes and aesthetics smashed together and then magically working out.But subconsciously? I think part of why I wanted to make DJU is because escaping into another self feels sooo relatable. Sometimes real life is awkward/scary, or boring, but on the internet suddenly you’re who you wish you could be.DJU is basically a love letter to other awkward people like me, saying "hey, it’s okay to be small and shy IRL, you can still have this huge, dazzling side too," and that’s sooo important to me.

So I’ve been quietly piecing together how long the demo should be, and right now I’m thinking it’ll cover the first three chapters! That way you’ll get to see both the school side of Aki’s life and her early VR collabs with Luvly. Enough to show the proof of concept, but not be tooo set into stone in case there's changes I wanna make with your feedback.Honestly it’s still wild to think that this lil daydream I had about a nerdy DJ girl is turning into something people might actually get to play??

This week I’ve been playing around with the first livestream scene and omg it’s becoming my favorite part of Chapter 2 so far. Writing the chat with all the silly usernames, emojis, and random comments is WAY more fun than I expected.
Bugsy’s nervous energy + Luvly’s confidence bouncing off each other is sooo cute!? I hope you'll enjoy watching their debut stream as much as I enjoyed making it!!

I set myself a silly challenge this week: write at least something every single day for DJU. And I actually kept up with it?? The draft for Chapter 1 is officially finished now and omg it feels SO good seeing it all together. Aki and Bugsypop are slowly coming to life!!I still need to clean things up, but it’s soo exciting because this means I can start focusing more on the VR chat and performance scenes… aka my FAVORITE parts to write.

I've been working on this for a bit now and I thought it was time to actually, y’know… share it with the world.Our main girl is Aki, a super shy nerd who loves idol anime and dreams about being a DJ!
